For the 2009 – 2010 academic year, tuition and fees in the M.S. Environmental Science and Management program total $954 per credit hour ($873 tuition + $81 University fee).
Each academic year, the Center for Environmental Research & Education (CERE) offers several partial assistantships. For the 2009-2010 academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) these assistantships provide a stipend of $6,000 per semester and tuition remission for eight graduate credits per semester. Awards are made on a competitive basis to new students with outstanding academic records, and to continuing students who have satisfactorily completed their semester reviews. Recipients of graduate assistantships must register as full time students (minimum of eight credits in the Fall and Spring semesters). Graduate assistantships currently are not available in the Summer term.
Generally, one or more research assistantships are available to CERE’s students. Research assistantships are funded by extramural research grants, and thus their availability and funding level are variable. The typical research assistantship provides a stipend and full tuition remission.
Funded by an endowment from the Bayer Corporation, the fellowship is available to a graduate student in the M.S.-ESM program who chooses the thesis track. The Bayer Fellowship is an annual appointment, beginning on July 1. It requires Master's-level research in environmental science, conducted under the supervision of biology or chemistry faculty engaged in environmentally related research. The fellowship is a one-year appointment and provides an annual stipend of $15,535 and tuition remission for 18 graduate credits. Requests for the Bayer Fellowship should be directed to the CERE director.
The Stafford Loan program provides low-interest loans for both full- and part-time graduate students. Full-time students are eligible to borrow up to $20,500 per academic year, according to individual circumstances. Students enrolled at least half time (minimum of four credits per semester) may borrow a reduced amount. The program is a cooperative effort of private lending institutions and state and federal governments; applications may be obtained through a bank or other lending institution.
