Dr. Manner holds a joint
appointment in two schools in the University.
In the Department of Physics in Bayer School of
Natural and Environmental Sciences, she teaches
geology courses and hydrogeology in the environmental
Science and Management graduate program. In this
school, her primary research is in the area of
groundwater hydrology, specifically the geochemistry
of natural waters. Dr. Manner is also the leader
for educational field trips to national parks,
specifically Hawaii Volcanoes and the Grand Canyon,
and to other areas of geologic interest.
In the Department of Elementary,
Secondary, and Reading Education in the School
of Education, Dr. Manner teaches science methods
classes for preservice elementary and secondary
science teachers. These classes emphasize hands-on
and cooperative learning, as well as teaching
with technology. In the School of Education, her
research interest is in the enhancement of science
content and methodology for middle-level and secondary
teachers. Dr. Manner has also developed joint
degree programs in which students can obtain both
a B.S. in a science discipline and an M.S. in
education in five years.
