The Duquesne University Undergraduate Research Program is
funded by the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental
Sciences, the Mylan School of Pharmacy, the National Science Foundation and the
departments and faculty of the University.
The goal of the Undergraduate
Research Program is to provide students with essential
research experience for a career in the sciences
or science related fields. This program provides
students the opportunity to experience science
through the successes and failures of scientific
research. Students are encouraged to start research
as early as their freshman year, allowing students
to gain as much experience as possible. The NSF
has reported that students who participate in
research, enjoy the sciences and finish their
degree in their field, while others tend to give
up or feel that science is not for them. Duquesne
University would like its students to start enjoying
their science careers as early as possible.
Positions are available in biochemistry,
biology, chemistry, pharmacy, or
physics. BSNES faculty are committed to experiential
education for their undergraduate students. These
faculty members are looking for junior colleagues
to become members of their research teams. Last
spring 23 students worked in research labs throughout
the school.
The summer program in 2009 included
42 students who participated in undergraduate research, seminars,
ethics forum, the Summer
Research Symposium and community
service. |
